Blue September - Nationwide awareness on men's health

Back to front page

In Australia, almost 3,000 men die of prostate cancer and around 18,700 new cases are diagnosed every year.[1]  Every day about 32 men learn news that they have prostate cancer – tragically one man every three hours will lose his battle against this disease.

Did you know?[2]

  • One in 9 men in Australia will develop prostrate cancer in their lifetime.
  • Prostrate cancer is the most common cancer in Australian men and is the second most common cause of cancer deaths in men.
  • The chance of developing prostate cancer increases:
    • As men get older
    • If there is a family history of prostate cancer, e.g. a man with a father or brother diagnosed with prostate cancer.
  • Early, curable prostate cancer may not have symptoms.  While younger men are less likely to be inflicted, they are more likely to die prematurely from it.

At least one in three cancer cases is preventable. Thousands of men's lives could be saved by making healthy lifestyle decisions such as quitting smoking, reducing alcohol intake, taking care in the sun, regular exercise, maintaining a healthy weight and eating a balanced diet[3]

Of course, there are many other cancers that can affect a man’s health such as lung cancer, bowel cancer etc.  If you would like to learn more about trauma/crisis cover, one of our life insurance advisers can discuss this with you, and help you put into place a new policy, or review your existing policy.  We have access to some of the best trauma policies in the market.

Blue September has a website if you would like more information on their program, and making a donation to a great cause.  You can visit www.blueseptember.org.au.
